This October 2019 the Mississippi John Hurt Homecoming Festival celebrates 20 years of honoring one of the legendary bluesmen. With the commitment of Taj Mahal who is curating the event and performing, the foundation looks forward to expanding the line up to include seasoned and younger performers influenced by the late great master. The Homecoming Festival takes place on the family land where the MJH museum and the church he worshiped in are located. Audiences will hear Blues on Saturday and Gospel on Sunday along with an open mic for up and coming players.
For 19 years John Hurt’s granddaughter, Mary Hurt Wright, and a small group of steadfast fans have produced this intimate event. Now help is needed in the form of donations, sponsorship and support to expand the Homecoming and festival production to keep John Hurts spirit and unique musical technique alive for the coming generations. Please email me at mississippijohnhurt@gmail.com to discuss how you can support and be a part of this historic moment.
All profits from the Homecoming Festival will go to the MJH Foundation in support of musical instruction for youth and disadvantaged women.
